Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The recommended guidelines include bibliographical and formatting standards, along with examples of common citation formats to be used when submitting articles:

Rules for submitting abstracts:

  1. The original article proposal to be developed should be summarised in an abstract of up to 250 words, in Times New Roman font size 10, with 1.5 spacing.
  2. The title should be no more than 100 characters long and appear above the abstract, in Times New Roman font, size 14.
  3. Above the title, the author must indicate whether the proposal is for a doctrinal article, a jurisprudential commentary or a review.
  4. The name(s) of the author(s) should appear below the abstract, accompanied by a brief biographical note of no more than 150 words for each author, containing institutional affiliation and ORCID identification (https://orcid.org/register) .
  5. Both abstracts and full papers (articles, jurisprudential commentaries or reviews) may be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.
  6. Abstracts must be submitted by 10 May 2025 on the University of Coimbra's Impactum platform.

Rules for the subsequent submission of full papers, after acceptance of the abstracts:

  1. Authors of abstracts accepted by the Journal must submit their full papers, in an anonymous file that does not allow their identification, by 30 September 2025 via the University of Coimbra's Impactum platform.
  2. The texts submitted must be original or not entirely published elsewhere.
  3. Full articles should be approximately 6,000 words in length, reviews 1,500 words, and case law commentaries 3,000 words, including spaces and bibliographical references.
  4. Written in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.
  5. Presentation in an editable file (.doc/.docx/.odt/.txt), with uniform formatting, recommending the use of Times New Roman font size 10, with 1.5 spacing in the body of the text and size 10, with single spacing for the footnotes. All four margins should be 2.5 cm on an A4 page.
  6. Titles and subtitles must be written in lower case and be at least bilingual (Portuguese and English) or trilingual if the work is presented in Spanish or French.
  7. Include an abstract of up to 250 words, in the language of the work, in Portuguese and in English, and 5 keywords.
  8. Bibliographical references must be in the following form: Surname, First name, title of publication, place, publisher, year of publication. In the case of periodicals and/or issues, the date of publication must also be given.
  9. The inclusion of bibliographical references in a footnote does not require the insertion of a bibliographical list at the end of the work.
  10. Send a separate file with the title of the work and full identification of the author(s) in a maximum of 5 lines for each author with name, affiliations, e-mail and ORCID. The templates for the full paper and this identification sheet will be sent to the selected authors.
