In 2021, France adopted a binding target for land artificialisation, which aims to curb the consumption of natural spaces. The adoption in 2024 of the European nature restoration law creates a new objective to preserve urban ecosystems. These two measures do not have the same purpose and do not share the same methodology, but their combination could lead to increased emphasis on the preservation of natural spaces in urban areas.
