Although it represents a structural element in the body of law regulating the safeguarding of archaeological heritage, there is widespread lack of knowledge about Law No. 121/99, of August 20, not only regarding its technical aspects but also its highly practical dimension. Inextricably linked to the problem of the misuse of metal detectors is the issue of ownership of objects discovered “by chance.”
