The legal perspective on the use of natural resources in the coastal zone lies at the intersection of international, European, and national legal frameworks. Regardless of the specific regime governing such use, the guiding principles aim at achieving a balance between sustainable utilisation and the economic exploitation of marine resources. However, the morphological and teleological diversity of these resources (encompassing activities as varied as fishing, aquaculture, or energy production) prevents the establishment of a unified legal framework.
