Abstract

The RENCOASTAL Project, Regulations and Environmental Conflicts Due to Coastal Erosion (PTDC/CS-SOC/103202/2008), is a research project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, promoted by the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering in partnership with the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. The RENCOASTAL Project explores the contradictions between development models and environmental regulations, with the main objective of contributing to the integrated management of the Portuguese continental coastal zones. The project, which began in early 2010 and is scheduled to end in 2013, is currently identifying the socioeconomic and environmental similarities and differences of the Portuguese continental coastal zones, using descriptive techniques and the selection of case studies.
