The article, presented as an essay, aims primarily to draw attention to the fact that the phenomenon of entropy, as a notion antithetical to balance or preservation, is increasing in the modern world—whether in characterising purely physical phenomena or, by analogy, in analysing socio-relational phenomena, including in the international sphere. From this perspective, relevant data are presented which highlight the continuous expansion of the justification of the lex mercatoria, to the detriment of another rationality, one proclaimed as necessary but stubbornly disqualified by the dominant ideology when it comes to granting it practical effects: the notion of sustainability remains an ideal when faced with the “positivism” of the market…
