Abstract

Potentially, briefly, and successively, the most relevant topics are presented for a study that integrates, from a legal perspective, planning, urbanism, coastline, leisure, and tourism.

Thus, after an introduction providing a justificatory account of the practical and scientific interest in the intensification of occupation along the Portuguese coast, the necessity of the legal understanding of the factual dimension of the subject is emphasized. The issue of the physical and legal delimitation of the territorial space in question is then addressed. Succinctly, the differentiation of the components of the coastline is mentioned, highlighting the terrestrial zone as the central axis for the problematic intersections analyzed in the article. Finally, a brief assessment is made of the types of occupation, use, and enjoyment of the coastline, with particular emphasis on tourism and leisure developments.
