Based on his own research on the subject, the author investigates the role that eclecticism can play in the history of philosophy and in its specialized historiographies. It is argued that, from a philosophical point of view, eclecticism may be original and that traditional historiographies, which are basically the historiographies of great authors, must give way to a historiography of philosophical problems in each different period. From this perspective, and considering the state of the art in this area, the author argues that the solution to the problems that we face fundamentally requires a rhetorical approach to philosophy.
