The Personality problem is the title agreed upon to a series of lectures given by Bergson in the Gifford Lectures of 1914. Of these conferences, we know only the summaries, which were published in English in Mélanges, followed by a french translation of Martine Robinet. More recently, this french translation was
revised and added with an extensive critical apparatus at the time of the publication of the Écrits philosophiques, the last volume of the critical edition of Bergson’s work, published by PUF. The present translation is based on the original english text published in Mélanges, and enriched with the translation of Élie During’s notes published in the aforementioned critical apparatus of the Écrits philosophiques.
