Starting from the concretism underlying Ernesto Manuel de Melo e Castro’s poetic text, which is at the origin of the treatment of language based on its modes of materialisation, this text seeks to trace a possible interpretative path for the function of visual poetry determined by the author, namely: to synthesise visual communication. For this purpose, it explores the path taken by the crossing of sign systems carried out by Melo e Castro’s poetic practice, especially that which concerns issues of intermediality, and which is related to the way in which the sign density of the textual phenomenon is materialised.
