The essay seeks to contextualize the portrait of Bertolt Brecht by Hannah Arendt in Men in Dark Times. Under the perspective of the concept of critical humanism exemplified by the author in the introductory chapter on Lessing, and following closely Arendt’s approach, some aspects of Brechtian theory and practice are briefly addressed, underlining the topicality of the method of the critique of the contemporary illustrated by Brecht’s texts.
