In this interview, Klaus Vieweg answers some questions about his new biography of Hegel, entitled Hegel: The Philosopher of Freedom (Hegel: Der Philosoph der Freiheit), as well as about his interpretation and revival of Hegel’s thought. The questions addressed are the misinterpretation of Hegel as an advocate of the accommodation or even of the restoration policy by the Prussian government. Hegel’s relationship with the philosophical tradition, namely with the paradigm of consciousness, and with the problem of the modern state; Hegel’s theses on environmental ethics; and the debate between Hegel’s metaphysical and non‑metaphysical interpretations.
