The electoral process of 1822 in the province of Entre-Douro-e-Minho

Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the electoral process corresponding to the year 1822, for the second term of the vintismo three-year period, in the province of Entre-Douro-e-Minho. We intend to pursue some of the basic precepts of the first liberal attempt at Portugal, and for that we´ve opted for the province of Minho for its cardinal action in 1820, formed by the first cities to join the liberal movement after Porto´s uprising. The methodology used for the core of the investigation was the analysis of the electoral records corresponding to the divisions that constituted the province of Minho, seeking to remove from them the information regarding the deputies elected for the second legislature, their professions, and the number of votes with which they were elected.
