In this paper the authors analyse and discuss data on early school dropout, from a large sample of students originally attending public schools in the County of Coimbra. These data were collected from the two younger cohorts of a large longitudinal study initiated in 1992-1993 in this region. Particular attention was devoted to prevalence rates of early dropout and their relationships with several socidemographic factors. Finally, some implications were drawn from these findings for the definition of new educational politics and teachers’ training.Downloads
