Abstract

The cognitive-evaluative framework has a greater stability in the lives of adolescents than the affective-emotional component. Self-perception of health, while biopsychosocial well-being, is affected by these components, which assume different proportions according to age and gender of adolescents. In a sample of 4877 adolescents living in Portugal, with an average of 14 years, 49.6% of males and 50.4% of females, we studied the relationship of age and gender with the perception of subjective well-being. The statistical data showed that the affective-emotional component assumes a greater importance in the perception index of subjective well-being of adolescents and is more vulnerable to the influences of age and gender. In addition to the processes of internal change and adjustment of adolescents, these results suggest the influence of contexts: family, school, social and cultural.
