Climate change is contributing to the global warming of the planet Earth. One of the consequences is the collapse of ecosystems, thereby altering the climate of a region, which in turn alters the climate and the types of atmospheric circulation recorded and predicted by meteorological maps. This work uses the meteorological data recorded in an automatic meteorological station for a year, to find out the wind potential in a coastal region next to the sea. The data provides information on the absolute frequency, in hours, for wind speed intervals, which influences the choice of wind turbine. The zonal velocity was determined for each day in order to understand the vector characteristics of the actual wind and the geostrophic wind. The results unequivocally show that the sea breeze has an influence on the wind potential predicted for the region under study. The determination of the meridional velocity suggests the beginning of a north wind and its increase in intensity. This work shows that the wind associated with the formation of sea breezes depends on the type of atmospheric circulation. Sea breezes can, in some cases, distort the actual wind direction by causing the anemometer and wind vane to record the sum of the wind vectors from the breeze and geostrophic wind. An illustration, without being in scale, is presented to show how breezes form.
