Hydrocarbons spill: when the ocean is black copper

Abstract

Due geographical localization and large Economical Exclusive Zone (1 683 000 km²), Portugal is one of the European countries with the biggest risk of maritime accidents, especially in terms of hydrocarbons leakage. And in some cases the risk was manifested. In these circumstances, we are analysing three of the various oil Ieakage whose affect our beaches, giving particular importance to the wind and sea currents that help in the material transport and to unchain oil spill in the Portugal coasts. At last, we explain the fuel oil evolution, Ioosed by Prestige, which were near our country, but happily did not affect it.
