Floods and overflows of the river Tejo, as well as those of other Portuguese rivers are part of the reality of the li f e and routine activities of the people who live on the river banks. Geographically speaking, water overflows turn out to be great interest because they lead to the adoption of measures in what concerns Territory Regulation, as they affect human occupation and activities taking place in risk areas. This study refers to the geomorphologic, climatic and human conditions which influence the existence of floods and overflows in Abrantes.
