Abstract

This paper focus on the assessment and description of the permanent and triggering factors of urban floods in the municipality of Matosinhos, with the objective of contributing to an in-depth understanding of the generating processes in this domain.

The underlying research of this paper analysed the spatial pattern of distribution of flood prone locations in this municipality aiming at inferring the common determining factors.

The conclusions from this analysis prove the negative consequences of urban expansion in Matosinhos as far as deregulation of the generating hydrological processes is concerned
