Abstract

The increase of disasters exposes the lack of adjustment between society and the physical environment and constitutes a threat to the development. The EM-DAT is a major effort to integrate data throughout the world, which is essential to recognize trends and to take structural and non-structural measures, but its confrontation to national databases (some of them with errors) demonstrates that it is underestimated.
