Abstract

The procedures for the evaluation of vertical movements of a manoeuvring ship are described. Such procedures include the definition of the ship response to monochromatic waves as well as the evaluation of the sea wave characteristics along the ship trajectory. The influence of the ship speed on that distribution is illustrated with the evaluation of the occurrence probability for vertical movements above a pre-set threshold for a ship manoeuvring in the Praia da Vitória port, Azores.
