Abstract

Type 2 diabetes (DM) is a metabolic disorder with a genetic component but much determined by lifestyle that is already showing - in the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) - huge and very serious Individual, social and economic costs. However, to put an end to this scourge and medicate an efficient lifestyle change, we create a Geographical Information System (GIS) project that allowed us to combine all sorts of variables in each of the 266 parishes of AMP so that we can build up the geographical distribution of a DM Risk Deprivation Index which is an essential tool to consider in the planning policies for healthier places.
