Abstract

In the first part of this study, the historical context and the institutional process regarding the IV Centenary of Luís de Camões’ stay on the Island of Mozambique (1569-1969) was justified and explained. After the identification of the official commissions members responsible for the events and the evaluation of the cultural activities proposed in the definitive program implemented on the Mozambican province, we proceed now to the analysis of the artistic sets commissioned between the years of 1968 and 1969.

The approach proposed for this second part is based on the presentation, interpretation and confrontation of the works produced in the context of the commemorations of 1969: the philatelic collections printed, the medal minted and the sculpture casted. In addition, an attempt will be made to identify the agents involved, the officials responsible for the works commissions and the artists involved in the conception and material execution, comparing the models of artistic influence and investigating the modes of production.
