It is through the resources that the Library makes available to the Academic Community that the quality of teaching and research of any Faculty and / or University is evident. Although the Library of Health Sciences is not expected to participate in the teaching and research activities of the Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine, the library develops and makes available a series of services and resources to support the academic community of both Faculties of the University of Coimbra. Within these services, we highlight the Information and Reference Services and the Research Support Services: The Information and Referral Service (SIR) aims to provide users with the necessary assistance in the proper use of Library services and resources through a series of options: a) Responding to specific needs, in person or by email; b) Assisted research service, by prior appointment; c) Training and information actions for all users. The Research Support Service introduces the resources and tools that are useful in measuring scientific output and impact.
Although there has been a considerable increase in the demand for these services in recent years, and efforts by the library to disseminate and inform the academic community, there is still poor adherence and this is mostly done by students, most of the time because learned through other colleagues, not through the advice of teachers. For this reason, we have tried to attract users, from the 1st year of the 1st Cycle, preferably through the distribution of flyers, through the BCSUC website, social networks, etc., but we consider that collaboration with teachers is inevitable. It is also extremely important to integrate an Information Literacy discipline into the academic curriculum.
