Abstract

This article is going to make a presentation of the notion of work in the FRBR (Functional Requirements of Bibliographic Records), RDA (Resource, Description and Access) and BIBFRAME (Bibliographic Framework Transition Initiative). The article is part of the master’s dissertation presented to the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra in February 2019. With the emergence of FRBR, the concept of work becomes fundamental to change the focus on the bibliographical treatment of documents in the library. The work is the highest-level entity and expressions, manifestations and items are in a hierarchical relationship with this work. We present the evolution of this concept throughout the history of library science. Following is the presentation of the appearance of FRBR, RDA and BIBFRAME and the concepts of work in these documents / projects.
