The article aims to analyze the perspectives of the Brazilian political class regarding Japanese immigration in the early years of the 1930s. The study utilizes bibliographic and documentary resources, with an emphasis on the Anais da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte and the Diários do Poder Legislativo dos Estados Unidos do Brasil, both available in digital format at the Digital Library of the Chamber of Deputies. The research provides specific examples of how certain members of the Legislative Power, influenced by theories of a racial and eugenic nature, contributed to the stigmatization of specific groups of individuals, characterizing them negatively and, thus, fostering racism and xenophobia.
