Abstract

With a PhD in Communication Sciences and a professorship in Cultural Theory from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, José Bragança de Miranda reflects on the theme of freedom in an interview with Biblos, exploring the intersection of Communication, Philosophy, History, and Politics. Refractory to the monistic logic of thought and organisations, the current rector of Lusófona University considers that, if it ever existed, the end of history began with the revolutions that led to the control of absolute power. Recognising that control of this power is not a definitive achievement, José Bragança de Miranda argues, however, that history shows that choosing the worst is not inevitable for humanity. Therefore, rather than discussing concepts such as freedom, he believes it is important to make use of them, updating the legacy of many heroes of the past in every tiny moment of the present.
