Pharmacy and medicine for human use in Portugal over the last 40 years: influence of accession to the European Union

In this paper, the author presents some of the main structural changes that took place in Portugal in pharmacy and medicines after joining the European Union in 1986. In 2024, it will be almost four decades since Portugal’s integration into the European pharmacy and medicine sector. The author critically analyzes some of the main changes that have occurred over the last 40 years and the influence that Portugal’s accession to the European Union has had on pharmacy and medicines in Portugal.
