The need to elaborate a mechanism to obtain, move and carve the architectural elements for the construction of the eminently public spaces was fundamental in the Roman period, since the propaganda of Rome. The study of the systems of exploitation of the stone materials can be considered the first step for the comprehension of the urbanized space and the constructive technologies employed. Nevertheless, scanty studies have addressed this subject in the Iberian Peninsula. In this respect, this study attempts a first approach to the systems of exploitation documented in the gaditan capital from the archaeological point of view. It will analyse the information obtained in the diverse interventions in the city and it will be the first time that this kind of approach will be addressed in the city of Cadiz.
