In the archaeological excavations carried out at Rua da Barbacã 29-33 (Serpa, Alentejo), next to the Castle, attached to the late medieval barbican of the Alcazaba, a compartment with a kiln that corresponds to a pottery was identified. This one worked in the 15th century and was deactivated around 1510, within the scope of the process of urban reformulation and consolidation of the defensive system developed in that point of the urban space, where a new barbican would be built, that would replace the medieval barbican of Vila Velha (Old Village).
