By ‘man’ I mean, following Michel Foucault in Les mots et les choses, a particular creation of European thought, beginning in the end of the eighteenth century, where man appears as the principal actor of a new episteme, the ‘modern’ one. It is he who I believe is today living the event of his death, even while repressing it violently, or rather, ‘necropolitically’, to use a conception introduced recently by Achille Mbembe.
