Different perceptions about landscapes and their histories in Brazilian Amazonia are fundamental to understanding the modes of knowledge in the region. On the Ilha do Pará-Afuá, places and times explain multiple relationships with their inhabitants. Residents of the Island have pointed to a change in this relationship with these environments, and the stories narrated from the standpoint of their own references are marked, to me, as a time of change in the landscape, and caused by different ways of obtaining resources. As a critique this process, the prevalence of a unique model of nature as something to be explored should be noted. I follow the fractures of this naturalist model, and I aim to tension this vision and think about what other possibilities exist to engage with Amazonian knowledge and landscapes. Faced with Anthropocene approaches, it is therefore necessary to seriously engage with ways of knowing and narrating stories that destabilize a single way of seeing “nature”.
