This paper presents a preliminary visual approach to the interpretative proposal of three formations that constitutes São Paulo's urban imaginaries. Such formations combine the notions of symbolic form in construction and images’ mobility. Intertwined and interdependent, they have deep roots in the history of the city and survive in constant movement in the daily life of the contemporary metropolis. The proposition of such formations, as interpretative hypotheses, is part of the results of the research project "Urban Imaginaries'' jointly funded by FAPESP (2020/06258-3) and the Université de Lyon, France, bringing together researchers from the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo of the Universidade de São Paulo (FAUUSP) and from the Centre Max Weber of the Université Jean Monnet in Saint-Étienne, France.
