This article explores the problem of the existence of an Archaeology of the Anthropocene, which, along with a Contemporary Archaeology, is here argued to be a necessary step for the discipline in general. Passing through a renewed notion of time, archaeology’s own identity and new contacts with materiality, the text seeks to offer a perspective on the problems and possibilities of the stage coined as the period of great transformation in ecological systems at a planetary level and its connection to archaeological practices.
