O Senador Lucius Marius Vegetinus Marcianus Minicianus Myrtilianus e família

Abstract

The Senator L(ucius) Marius L(ucii) f(ilius) Vegetinus Marcianus Minicianus Gal(eria) Myrtilianus, two of his children, Maria Rufina and L. Marius Vegetinus Lucanus Tiberenus, as well as the name of his wife, Claudia Artemidora, have been known for a long time. Currently, the authors are unanimous regarding his Hispanic origin, and more recently Mértola was recognized as his city of origin. But opinions differ as to the origin of his wife’s family, namely Claudius Artemidorus, who has been mistaken with his namesake, the senator of Ephesus. In this text we propose a Lusitanian origin for Claudia Artemidora’s father, as well as for her husband’s close relatives, directly linked to the colony of Pax Iulia.
