The identification in a printed work of the 17th century of an unknown inscription with the epitaph of Sextus Olius Taurus, ordered by his daughter Olia F(…) or T(…), allows the Author to compare these persons with those named in a vote dedicated to Enobolicus (CIL II 142), Tusca Olia Tauri f(ilia) and Quintus Statorius Taurus, concluding that they are of the same family, which goes back to the first of the individuals named here. In addition to the rarity of the gentilics present, the apparent simplicity of these texts turns out to be deeply misleading, because they contain elements of controversial explanation: the theonymic form Enobolico (dat.) itself, the inversion of position between nomen and cognomen, the filiation indicated through the paternal cognomen in the genitive in the context of Roman citizens, and the extensive register of praenomina.
