The study of the charred vegetal remains (charcoal and seeds) recovered during fieldwork at Castelo Velho aimed to obtain information concerning the environmental and economic background of this ‘architectonical project’. Results obtained may suggest the existence of a voluntary woodland management, to ensure that the site remained visible in the distance. Furthermore, the concentration of seeds and broken pottery found in a sealed structure is interpreted as being a “symbolic deposit”.
