A DECORAÇÃO “AO ROMANO” E A PRESENÇA DE JOÃO DE RUÃO NA TUMULÁRIA DE GÓIS E TROFA DO VOUGA

The tombs of D. Luís da Silveira and D. Duarte de Lemos, located in Góis and Trofa do Vouga, are incredibly similar, specially in the way the patrons were represented. The majority of art historians recognized the resemblances between these works, but still they ignored its decorative component. It’s precisely on this component that relies the key to better understand and identify the artists involved, specially when there is no documental information to prove authorships.
This article intends to analyze the decoration present in the tombs, showing how it obeys to the artistic culture irradiated from the city of Coimbra, and understand how its differences reveal a different level of involvement by João de Ruão.
