Abstract

An active participant of his zeitgeist, erudite, learned and enlightened, endowed with singular artistic sensitivity and sculptural mastery, João de Ruão shows in his work remarkable knowledge of the Euclidean geometric science.
The present text analyses and clarifies the a priori geometrical foundations of João de Ruão’s artistic work. By assessing the sagacious articulation of these signification mechanisms, based on the adequacy of the different structural and figurative elements of its compositions, it aims at underlining its remarkable reasoning, imbued with a vivid spiritual significance.
