Abstract

Throughout the documental investigation existing in the Historical Archive of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Sardoal, it became possible to clarify a set of historiographical uncertainties around the construction process of the Church of Misericórdia, mainly regarding its chronology and the architects involved in its construction. Therefore, the documentation revealed us that the reconstruction of the Misericórdia church in Sardoal had its starting point in a project by João de Castilho and its execution was undertaken by Lucas Fernandes,a mason from Coimbra, who has finished the work for 120,000 reais.
