The debate surrounding the Anthropocene epoch have helped to disqualify a reductionist interpretation of the environmental crisis that seeks to understand it as a deficiency within a model of civilization that is evaluated as essentially positive and long-lasting, a deficiency that can be corrected by technological means that are also free from a deeper critical examination. The concept of the Anthropocene, on the other hand, by combining historical temporality with geological temporality, helps us to understand both the existential and ontological dimension of the exponentially growing global environmental crisis, as well as the causal responsibilities of human action over the last two centuries - also differentiated by region, social class, and mode of production - in the genesis of this crisis that could degenerate into collapse.
