This study investigates the transformative potential of heritage education in the teaching of History, using the Convent of Santa Maria de Semide in Miranda do Corvo as a case study. By confronting students with dominant heritage narratives, the research reveals gaps in heritage literacy and demonstrates how heritage materialises historical conflicts and contemporary reuse. The educational project shows that pedagogical practices can not only transmit knowledge but also foster critical reflection on the processes of selection, preservation and interpretation of heritage, consolidating it as a space for cultural and political contestation. The study contributes to rethinking heritage education as an instrument of critical citizenship.
