Cracking and repair works in Cabril dam

Abstract

Cabril, high arch dam built in 1953, showed significant cracking in the downstream face and some important non-elastic displacements. After research studies supported by simulation on analytical and physical models, some hypotheses on the causes were formulated and backed the decision for repair works, which comprised treatment of the foundation and grouting wilh epoxy resins of the contraction joints and the fissures. Toe present behaviour during the unfilling of the reservoir is also reported.
