Our study was structured along two themes: the omnipresence of the Sea and the Sea travel in the Portuguese Culture – the “myth of Henry, the Navigator”, according to António Quadros.
To present the matter, we followed an interpretative and critic paradigm, and a qualitative research methodology, analyzing the perspective of contemporary Portuguese Culture researchers that associate the theme of Sea travelling to the collective identity questions.
Using a diachronic approach to the theme of Sea and Travel in the Portuguese Literature – an innovative contribute to the state of the art –, we concluded that the maritime vocation of this finis terrae country is unquestionable, and that it is psychosocially marked by the Travel of the Discoveries.
