Abstract

With the amendments approved by Decree-Law no. 177/2001, of 4 July, to Decree-Law no. 555/99, of 16 December, the new Legal Regime for Urbanization and Construction is finally, after almost two years, ready to come into force.

This article aims to provide an overall assessment of it and a (sometimes critical) evaluation of some of its most innovative solutions.

A positive final assessment is, however, the main conclusion that can be drawn from its most important provisions.
