One of the factors that has most contributed to the doubts and concerns currently surrounding the precautionary principle is the rapidity with which it spread in political discourse, journalism, and even everyday language. Seeking to address the concerns of the European Council in 2000, we aim to strengthen understanding and promote clarification of a principle that has enjoyed “jurisdictional anointment” by European courts for about a decade, but which still lacks the endorsement of national courts.
