The New Legal Regulation of Land in Spain

The new legal regulation of land in Spain is the first law to address Spanish urban planning as “an organic whole,” with a comprehensive vision of the entire territory of the State.
A key innovation of the new law is the rejection of the land classification system that had existed in successive land laws. However, the classification of land, which—due to the law’s abandonment—has been left to the exclusive competence of the autonomous communities, will inevitably continue to raise issues regarding its alignment with the basic land-use situations.
