Public Participation in Planning and Environmental Decision-Making in Switzerland

In Switzerland, regarding planning and environmental matters, administrative procedures and judicial litigation are complemented by instruments of direct democracy. However, the right of participation is not exercised uniformly across the Swiss territory: the forms and degrees of public involvement in planning and environmental decision-making vary significantly between the cantons.
