This dossier aims to provide a snapshot of the country before, during, and after the wildfires of the summer of 2003. Its main objective is to portray the Portuguese forest—particularly the Vila de Rei area, one of the regions most affected by the fires—and to analyze the effectiveness of legal instruments as operational tools for both wildfire prevention and the recovery of burned territories.
