Can populism be employed in an analytically productive way to understand the incidence of the media in complex processes of political dispute? By addressing the role of Veja magazine in the two impeachment processes in the Brazilian post-democratization period (Fernando Collor de Mello and Dilma Rousseff), this article demonstrates how media actors become central subjects in the discursive composition of political antagonisms. Understanding populism as an analytical category instead of a merely descriptive characterization offers a fresh research-agenda for comprehending the role of key enunciators within contemporary social and political challenges.
